Illuminare's Fest at Trout Lake in Van

Posted by Picasa

a friendly Cobra...

After a whirwind week of late nights the cobra took the trip to Vancouver's Illuminare's Festival at Trout Lake in three parts and then got re-assembled as one of the art installations around the lake. Matthew, Britt and Ava joined Joyce, Chuck and me for the revelry. At dusk hundreds and hundreds of folks wandering around the lake...all holding some glowing luminary aloft...the most ingenious creativity! Many said the Cobra was their favorite, though with so many done with such precision detail it would be hard to find a favorite.

Dance of Life

This sculpture is the work of Ann Morris from her large estate on Lummi Island. She says,"My work emphasizes the masculine and feminine principles of consciousness within the human psyche and asserts that a holistic relationship between them and with Nature is essential to human health and development." She goes on to say that she hopes we feel the power of this joining and may her work unfold relationships before you and enrich your pondering.
I can say... yes... and though I have never encountered such a beast in the forest...I have met him many times in my imagination.

Mom's Day Hike may 2007

Mom's Day Hike...We took the long trail which added an extra mile so that Ava, not quite two, could navigate the gentler terrain and grade. It was a very, long slow hike but worth the view, although we never made it to the upper falls. This shot is Middle Wallace Falls, which cascades from quite a height. Next time I shall hike the shorter trail and go to the top.

Big blows winter 07

The wind was just too much for this hang glider!

In twenty years of hiking Blanchard Mtn I have never seen so many trees down! It looks like Paul Bunyan went through the woods with his big ax chopping huge swathes through the trees.
These shots were taken after the second big wind ripped through these woods.

Gabe at the grill

Using his headlamp at night, Gabe cooked his famous jalapeno cheeseburgers with bacon and grilled onions. Absolutely the best burger I have ever eaten in my whole life!
